This work did not begin as a landscape. I was wading through tangles of lines, experimenting with stacking colors to see how they continued to show through. As I placed areas of light on top of dark, a feeling of landscape struck me. It was not a bright place. I did not feel in control there. But, the sun was rising, and like so many challenging times we face, hope and opportunity were visible on the horizon.
