Like all of the works my first solo exhibition, Progress, this piece was focused on two things. First, it needed to be balanced perfectly between human influence and computer influence. Second, in order to achieve the first goal, it was created entirely through a recursive triangle subdivision algorithm.
Still Does, For Some Reason is visually dominated by two elements that I have repeatedly been captivated by. First are the mountains. Great, immovable masses. They simultaneously represent struggle and accomplishment. We must work to climb them, but they provide an uphill direction for us to look to.
Second is the sun. Our source of light, warmth, and life. Despite its importance to us, it does not care about us at all. It simply continues to exist, rising and setting every day with no exception, even for the most staggering events in human existence. This unshakeable constancy reminds me of our relative unimportance. Even our greatest failures are trivial. In a way, this is freeing.
